On November 14 and 15, researchers Breixo Martins and María Isabel Doval Ruiz from the University of Vigo presented the GRANULAR project at the 1st FIREPOCTEP+ Sustainability Workshop and Training Session on Financial Resources and Best Practices. The event, organized by the Finnova Foundation as part of the INTERREG POCTEP FIREPOCTEP+ project, took place in San Xoán de Río, Ourense, Spain.

The workshop highlighted the shared environmental and social goals of GRANULAR and FIREPOCTEP+, emphasiszing the importance of collaboration to foster synergies between European initiatives.

The GRANULAR presentation focused on the project’s approach to addressing specific climate risks, such as forest fires, by collecting data and experiences from a participatory and social perspective. This approach serves as a vital complement to efforts aimed at reducing the impact of climate change.

The project’s Living Labs were particularly noted as a key innovation. These labs engage local communities in co-creating solutions, ensuring that society plays an active role in tackling global challenges like climate change. By involving residents, policymakers, and researchers, GRANULAR promotes a holistic strategy to both mitigate risks and drive long-term sustainability.

This event provided a valuable platform for exchanging knowledge and reinforcing the collaboration between projects, showcasing how European initiatives can work together to create meaningful environmental and social impact.
