GRANULAR Latvian Lab showcased at the Rural Pact Conference

Sep 29, 2025 | GRANULAR Living Labs, News

More than 250 participants from across Europe gathered at the Rural Pact Conference for two days of dynamic exchange and debate on the future of rural policies. Among the highlights, GRANULAR partners from PREPARE presented the project, showcasing how community-led innovation is shaping sustainable rural development in their Replication Lab.

Latvian Lab: Innovation in Action

Aris Adlers from PREPARE presented GRANULAR’s Replication Lab Sea Land Latvia, based in the Saulkrasti and Ādaži municipalities. The Lab illustrates how innovation and community engagement can power sustainable rural development.

Set in a region rich in natural and cultural heritage, with vibrant communities and diverse coastal landscapes, the Lab harnesses these assets to promote sustainable development and tourism. One standout initiative is the River Gauja cooperation model, designed through data analysis and legal frameworks to ensure fair access and coordinated use of local resources across the territory.

This approach shows how evidence-based methods, combined with strong community involvement and local partnerships, can drive long-term change. It highlights the power of local knowledge, cooperation, and a shared readiness to innovate in building a sustainable rural future.

Success Through Partnership and Evidence

Mr Adlers described the initiative as “community-led innovation in action,” pointing to three key success factors:

  • Evidence-based solutions rooted in data and legal frameworks.
  • Active community engagement coupled with a strong drive to innovate.
  • Robust partnerships uniting local actors and institutions for lasting collaboration.

Together, these elements form a powerful synergy: turning knowledge, cooperation, and local energy into a blueprint for a sustainable future in the region.
