Living Labs

Living Lab – Spain: Oruense

The Spanish Living Lab is run by the RIO International Observatory of Rural Research, a laboratory of ideas and projects created in 2019. Ourense is the only landlocked province in Galicia region with about 310,000 inhabitants. Ourense has the lowest birth rate in Spain and three unique characteristics, which call for evidence-led innovations:

  • an exceptional concentration of citizens above 100-year-old;
  • a lack of forest inventories, which is critical to prevent mega-fires in the context of climate change and;
  • an ambition to develop a digital administration in the post-Covid context.
